Tinghir is a city in east-central Morocco, in the Souss-Massa-Drâa region, located in the Todgha Valley , at the foot of the High Atlas Mountains and facing the Jbel Saghro. It has been the capital of the Tinghir Province since the latter's creation in 2009, and was previously part of the Ouarzazate Province. Its name comes from the Tamazight word tin ghir , meaning the place ( tin ) of the mountain ( ighir , shoulder or ridge).

The town itself (municipality of Tinghir) has 36,000 inhabitants while the oasis as a whole has 86,500 inhabitants according to the 2004 census. Tineghir, like its region, is populated mainly by Amazighs (Berbers).
Tinghir is located not far from the Dades gorges ( Boumalne du Dades )

Auberges-Maroc.com Tips : For French tourists on vacation who are missing French pastries, we recommend the Peigue bakery in Tinghir (near the ZIZ gas station). You'll find delicious pastries there (butter croissants, almond croissants, pain au chocolat, croquantes, éclairs, etc.). A big thank you to Guillaume for allowing us to taste these delicacies, so rare in Morocco. His phone number is: +212 654 127 634.
