Its territory, which was once a stopover in the trans-Saharan trade, has become a starting point for excursions into the desert, particularly to the dunes of Erg Chegaga .
It is part of a nomadic area and shelters, at an altitude of approximately 500 m , an oasis, with a palm grove extending to the Draa wadi, which separates the villages (or districts) of M'Hamid Bali (the old M'Hamid) and M'Hamid Jdid (the new M'Hamid).
