Arfoud is located in theMeknes -Tafilalet region .

An immense oasis, Erfoud is the capital of the Tafilalet region, north of Rissani , the cradle of the Alaouite dynasty . Erfoud is a new town, founded in 1913 by the French, with well-ordered streets and a few remaining traditional mud-brick houses. It lies at one end of the Ziz River road, passing through the Foum Zabel tunnel, dug by the French Foreign Legion in 1928.

In October, Erfoud becomes the "date capital." For three days, the Guetna festival animates the city. It's the date festival, marking the end of the harvest. Folk dances and competitions for the most beautiful dates attract thousands of visitors. This festival became the International Date Fair in 2010. Furthermore, the city is geologically rich, thanks to the abundance of fossils in its region.

Erfoud is one of the last towns before the desert, along with Rissani and Merzouga .
