Agdez and the Drâa Valley
7 places to stay availableAgdz, whose name means "resting place," lies on the ancient caravan route linking Marrakech to Timbuktu. Long the capital of the Mzgita region north of the Draa Valley, it played a significant economic role. However, due to the drought of the 1970s and 1980s and the availability of transportation, it declined in importance, as a large part of the population was forced to migrate to the city in search of work.
Dominated by the Djebel Kissane, it is accessible from Ouarzazate via the road that crosses the Djebel Tifernine at the Tinifift pass ( 1,660 m ). The weekly souk is held on Thursdays. There are also shops, especially on the main street, selling Berber carpets characteristic of the Taliouine region.
